Item purchased by family member of donor in 1984 and sold to commemorate the first mission of the Space Shuttle Discovery in 1984. Space shuttle was retired in 2011. People have forgotten that they once carried humans to space. Item donated to the Museum to help preserve a part of history. Donor wanted people to remember that space exploration was a great leap forward for mankind.
