The painting entitled “Chata” exemplifies the Colourist movement, in which colour is of paramount importance. Since his studies at Krakow and Warsaw Academies of Fine Arts, Zenon Kononowicz had been associated with circles which prioritised colour. He displayed his works together with the “Zwornik” [“Keystone”] group and joined the “Pryzmat” [“Prism”] association in the 1930s. “Chata”, painted in the 1960s by the already mature artist, captures the full essence of his paintings. Both the artistic side and the power of expression are important. Kononowicz utilised small colour patches. Signed in the bottom right-hand corner: Kanon
