Sculpture of President Abraham Lincoln (1809-1865), 16th President of the United States until his assassination on April 14, 1865, by John Wilkes Booth. President Lincoln is shown with a beard and head emerging from a marble block base, with exaggerated and stylized hair. This sculpture is a replica of a bronze bust of President Lincoln that sculptor Raymond Granville Barger created in 1937.

  • Provenance: Presented by Robert L. Byers in 1991. This marble bust was unveiled at a luncheon in Lincoln Hall at The Union League of Philadelphia, a patriotic society founded in 1862 to support Abraham Lincoln and the Union during the American Civil War, on Lincoln’s Birthday, February 12, 1991. The eighty-five year old artist attended the event and entertained the audience with a description of his life and work, and read a poem he composed for the occasion.
