This video-object presents a look on the feminine universe through close-ups of women leading characters from fragments of films by the directors [A]ntonioni, [B]resson, [C]octeau and [D]reyer. A monitor per actress, ordered by the initial corresponding to the surname of each male director, draws in parallel a situation repeated almost permanently in classic cinema: the man writes and directs, while the woman performs. On the screens, we can see the actresses Mónica Vitti, Nadine Nortier, María Casares and Renée Falconetti making gestures, in a tense attitude, in the middle of a conflictive situation. They act one by one, while the rest waits for their turn, establishing some sort of dialogue between them and the spectator. We can hear “their” voices, represented, in each case, by a monotone sound that in the ABC notation coincides with the initial of each director (A-B-C-D). The work was produced directly on VHS and it partially reproduces its creation process. Source: Itaú Cultural Visual Arts Award 2019-2020 Catalogue
