Deep Inside

Deep Inside 2 is a work by the Spanish artist Samuel Salcedo (Barcelona, Spain, 1975). Human emotions take on sculptural form in his hyper-realistic creations. His faces mounted on the wall and spherical heads explore an infinite number of gestures and emotions, with vulnerability and clumsiness as recurring features. In this work, vulnerability is not too palpable, and calm predominates, but it does convey the sensation of spying on someone who has not noticed our existence; it’s an awkward moment. Technical expertise is one of the hallmarks of Salcedo’s work; his mastery of materials gives rise to extraordinarily expressive creations.
