Here the lady of the house is directing the gardeners at Monivea. Monivea was home to the ffrenchs, a Roman Catholic family who acquired the lands in the early 17th century. The ffrench family was also responsible for the distinctive layout of the greens in the centre of the local village, which were used as drying stations for the locally produced linen (flax).
