The real name of this place was Atsuta, but as the town in front of the entrance to the Atsuta Shrine, it was called Miya (‘shrine’), and was the landing place for the boat which crossed the Ise Bay on the journey known as “The Seven Ri Crossing” (seven ri equals about 24 kilometers). This depicts the harbor scene centering on the Hamadori Gate of the Atsuta Shrine. The gate was large enough to be seen from the ocean and used as a landmark.
