El país de los ciegos (The Land of the Blind) is a work by Andrés Rábago (Madrid, Spain, 1947). The draughtsman and painter is recognised as a fundamental figure in understanding and telling the history of Spanish illustration. Since 1990, the Madrid-born artist has worked under the pseudonym El Roto, publishing a small but sharp daily cartoon in national newspapers, in which he reflects on the socio-political state of the world. Steeping its roots in the Castilian hallelujahs of the 18th century, irony, humour and accuracy define the practice of El Roto, who, with elegance and simplicity reveals in two strokes the wounds and scars of contemporary society.
