This object is a stand for funerary offerings inscribed with a short appeal from a man to his dead father and grandmother to protect his living family members and intercede against his enemies. "Letters to the dead" such as this inscribed vessel were commonly left alongside food offerings to a deceased relative or ancestor in expectation of their assistance with the living relative's problems.
