The painting represents one of the seven landscapes that Camille Pissarro (1830-1903) painted during his stay in Berneval, a small town near Dieppe, during the summer of 1900. The work was created in the last decade of the artist's life, which he spent in intensive work and frequent travels. "Landscape in Berneval" belongs to the type of Pissarro's rural landscapes where vegetation and sky occupy the focus of the painter's interest. The painting presents an impressionistic process in the treatment of light which tends to capture the dynamic aspects of nature, while the short and energetic strokes he uses to paint the grass and the canopy imply an echo of his divisional phase.
