Postcard from Louisa Garrett Anderson to Ivy Anderson. Thursday 17 Sep, postcard to Mrs Alan Anderson. Written from the Grand Hotel Terminus, Rue St Lazare, Paris. Better address always Claridge's Hotel. Transcript:
Claridge's is a big new hotel: a gorgeous shell with a few beds and marble tables in it: nothing ready for us and still less for a hospital. We shall have to work v. hard at it for the next few days to get it ready. Have wired back for motor ambulance offered to us before we left. Find it will be essential as the best way of getting cases is to collect them ourselves from the rlwy junctions round Paris. At present we are getting thro' preliminary formalities: cards of identification; permissions from police to reside in Paris etc etc. It is an excellent training for dealing wth affairs! I went in Dr Haden Guest ambulance y'day to a station some miles outside Paris. We found a number of wounded and brought back some - as many as the ambulance wd hold. This is all very interesting. We have been very fortunate in finding friends at once. Dr Haden Guest and Mr Joll who have been most useful to us. Please send this to M. Much love LGA.
