Oak Shape

Elemore Madison Morgan, Jr.1983

Ogden Museum of Southern Art

New Orleans, United States

Oak Shape is of great interest to this collection since so many of the important nineteenth century Louisiana landscape painters were pre-occupied with the evocative and subliminal uses of the oak tree form; therefore, Morgan's work has a historical context for comparison. While his shape is freer from academic reality than those artists of the nineteenth century, his symbolic intent is no less present.
