The historic "Olmsted Elm", a victim of Dutch Elm disease, was finally removed from the South Lawn in 2011. As part of the "Witness Tree Project" at Rhode island School of Design (RISD), students used the wood from the tree to create specific items thoughtfully crafted, based on Olmsted's worldview and his life and the placement of landscape in our world.
