United Kingdom

This object is from the top, open part of the scabbard. The width of the opening suggests that this was probably from the British Infantry Officer's "5 Ball" spadoon with usually a 32.5 inch blade. Introduced in the 1780s the term spadoon was used in the 18th century to describe a cut and thrust sword.
