"Look out here in Manhattan at the skyscrapers! All this comes from a small German town called Dessau." – Tom Wolfe. The Bauhaus had its heyday from 1925 to 1932 in Dessau. Avant-garde artists from all over the world came there. The school of design as a artistic space for experimentation. Dessau has more Bauhaus buildings than any other city in the world: the Bauhaus Building, the Masters' Houses and the Houses with balcony access are modernist icons and are UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The school of design as a artistic space for experimentation. Today, students, designers, curators and architects from all over the world learn and research in the artistic-scientific programmes of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation such as the Bauhaus Residency or the Bauhaus Lab. In 2019 we will celebrate the Bauhaus Centenary.
