The association Nîmes s’illustre, the illustration festival, is the initiative of three locals who joined forces, with a shared desire to create a new unique rendezvous on the topic of illustration.

In June 2019, a "test" prelude brought together 10 artists around the figure of Carlo Rim and was exhibited at the Hotel de Bernis. The trial proved promising and engaging.

After a transition year in 2020, the first real edition of the festival took place in July 2021.

The second edition took place in July 2022. The festival aims to become an unmissable event for all these artists and, more broadly, for image professionals who will be able to meet, exchange and share ideas during privileged and sociable times.

The illustration festival takes place over three lively weeks, with the exhibitions including workshops, meetings between professionals and young talents, performances, in situ experiences and festive events!
The principle of the illustration festival is to design and propose exhibitions composed of illustrations – new and "old" – in several places throughout the city of Nîmes, with original and cutting-edge scenographies.

During the illustration festival, an urban route is proposed that can be followed by anyone setting foot in the city of Antonins, weaving the web of the exhibition ecosystem.

While illustration is part of our daily lives, there are few events bringing together buyers and connoisseurs, where it is honored with live moments of creation that create real opportunities for sharing.
Nîmes s'illustre aims to be both a popular and festive event centered on illustration, and a privileged arena for the professionals and artists who bring it to life.
It is an annual event for a creative and artistic community, providing spaces for dialog with the general public. Illustration has gained a prominent place in the visual arts scene.
Ateliers et rencontresNîmes s'illustre
Whether it is poetic, didactic, provocative or disturbing, illustration is a creative force with many faces that expresses itself with many languages and methods. The workshops offered to all audiences reflect all this diversity.
During the festival, specific workshops for young audiences (7–12 year olds) are led by our mediation teams. The workshops are based on the annual theme of the festival, as well as on each exhibition, to offer fun and educational creative moments.
The workshops for young audiences take place in the mornings as part of each exhibition. The children are accompanied by our mediators, discovering the exhibitions and trying things out in the workshops with notebooks and the creative material provided.

The third edition of the Festival de illustration (June 8 to 25, 2023) focuses on the theme of immobility, or in other words the question of our relationship to movement, time and space.
The settings of the exhibitions offer the possibility to engage in a direct interaction with the images! All visitors, of all ages, are also welcome to enjoy the experience at each exhibition. Fun isn't only for the young!
