The use of a laser to trigger a 600 kV supply for the study of pulsed separators. A continuous 600 kV generator is connected to a heavy screened cable (running along the bottom of the photograph) and discharged through a spark gap, triggered by a short pulse from a laser beam. The laser (centre of photograph no. 184) is being aligned with the window of the spark gap chamber.
