Fairy tales and nursery rhymes provided a source of inspiration for makers of board games during the late 19th century. Everyone knew the stories and thus found the games appealing. Parker Brothers' 1890 "Game of Red Riding-Hood" provides a great example. Young players took the role of either Red Riding-Hood or the wolf. If the latter player won, the other player was "eaten," true to the original story.
