Press Pamphlet and Visitor Pass for ALT Test

The space shuttle orbiter Enterprise was a prototype that performed important tests in Earth’s atmosphere. During the tests, Enterprise was carried aloft by a specially modified Boeing 747 and then released from a high altitude. Enterprise was designed to descend and land as a glider. It did not have engines for landing. NASA invited visitors and the press to view the first free flight of the space shuttle orbiter Enterprise. During free flight, Enterprise glided to a landing after separating from the carrier aircraft.

This pamphlet highlights earlier milestones in Enterprise’s career, including taxi tests and captive flights atop the carrier aircraft. Mark Wilson watched the historic test flight with his father, a NASA employee.
