This German medallion commemorates Captain Karl Von Muller and the crew of SMS EMDEN, destroyed by Australia's HMAS SYDNEY (I) in November 1914. It features a portrait bust of Von Muller and a carving of SMS EMDEN, with the German inscription 'A new, stronger EMDEN will arise'.
