The Omega spectrometer

1972

CERN

CERN
Geneva, Switzerland

The Omega spectrometer came into action during 1972. An array of optical spark chambers can be seen in the album, withdrawn from the magnet aperture. In the "igloo" above the magnet, the Plumbicon camera system was located, which collected information from the spark chambers. Behind was the refrigeration plant to cool the superconducting magnet coils.
