Bangalore, India

Brocade skirt, patterned with silver thread on a deep purple silk ground. The lower section of the skirt depicts the map of undivided India from the pre-independence era inside the representation of a sunflower, while the middle section of the skirt depicts other intricate floral motifs. The skirt is lined with plain purple coloured textile at its ends.
Banarsi brocades are known after Benaras, one of the rich weaving craft centres of India, famous for saris and dress material. Their unique and intricate silk brocades are made of silk-warp and silk- weft, on plain/satin ground base, brocaded with extra weft patterns in different layouts.
