In 2007 librarians and gamers Christopher Harris and Brian Mayer began an innovative program at the School Library System of Genesee Valley Boces, servicing the school libraries of twenty-two small, rural school districs in Western New York. The two utilized designer games, also known as Euro-games, chosen to "address specific local, state, and national curriculum standards across many content areas..." Growing from a small initial investment, the library game loan program met with success from its start and has grown since that time. The two authored "Libraries Got Game: Aligned Learning Through Modern Board Games" in 2010, describing the details of the project and its success as a teaching tool. This designer game is part of a donation from the School Library System from its inventory of games.
