The case of the desertion of Jaan Sokk

Jaan hid in the forest by day, and at night he was with his wife at home.

There are many files in the archive concerning deserters and AWOL soldiers. The Riga circuit court prosecutor's collection is one of them.
Usually such soldiers concealed themselves in their own homes. They told their family that they were on leave. Sometimes when they came to arrest deserters, they would run physical interference to protect the deserter and give him a chance to make a quick getaway through a window.
