This is one of the important specimens in the lichen collection of this museum. It was collected from a pine tree outside the Haitian Temple, along the Danda Forest Road, in Nantou County by a researcher from this museum in 1993. In 2009, a researcher from the National Museum of Nature and Science in Japan made a request via the Internet for a duplicate specimen. Through chemical analysis, Dr. Y. Ohmura confirmed that this species is a new record in the algal flora of Taiwan. In March 2010, researchers of this museum jointly published the results in the Memoirs of the National Museum of Nature and Science No. 46, in an article entitled “Some sorediate species of the genus, Usnea (Parmeliaceae, Ascomycota) new to Taiwan”.
