The "Little Maryjane" paper doll appeared in the October 1923 issue of "Good Housekeeping." The magazine began offering paper dolls on its pages in the early 20th century. Little Maryjane led a series of paper dolls which included ""Sister Priscella," Marjorie from Across the Street," "Nancy and Her New Skates," and a number of other characters who lived in different countries around the world. Women's magazines of the late 19th and early 20th centuries featured a page or more of paper dolls or paper toys in each of their issues. The practice was started by "Godey's Lady's Book" in 1859.
