Radar Scope can be considered the most important failure in video game history. Radar Scope was a space shooting game inspired by Space Invaders and Galaxian. Encouraged by the game's popularity in Japan, the fledgling Nintendo of America placed a large order for the game from their Japanese parent company. However, the Japanese hit did not translate to the American market. Nintendo of America was in desperate need of a new, successful game to keep their company afloat. The game that they received was no small hit; it was Donkey Kong. First produced as a conversion kit for the unsold Radar Scope cabinets, the history of Donkey Kong will forever be intertwined with Radar Scope.
