Parcheesi is just one of the names given to an American adaptation of the Indian Cross and Circle game Pachisi. Often called the Royal Game of India, Pachisi dates from around 1500. American game makers Selchow & Righter registered the name Parcheesi in 1874, and the game was quite popular in the United States in the later 19th century. Other manufacturers brought out versions with different names. J.H. Singer called it "The Game of India." Parcheesi also directly influenced the design of several other popular games such as Aggravation and Sorry!
