Text continues : "... the property of Government, at present deposited in the Museum of King's College, Somerset House. It was commenced 1823. This portion put together 1833. The construction abandoned 1842. This plate was printed, June, 1853." Detailed elevation of the DE1; the portion of the actual difference engine no. 1 is in the Science Museum (inv.1862-89). This engraving was reissued as frontispiece to Charles Babbage's book 'Passages from the Life of a Philosopher' published 1864, with a sentence added
