When tackling drift chambers of the size required for installation at the Omega spectrometer (1,65 x 3.2 m useful area) great care has to be taken in the construction to ensure good reliability. The Omega group has invented a technique which rapidly measures the tension on each wire - checking a plane of l600 wires spaced 2 mm apart takes only 1,30 hrs.
