This three-ring booklet was a checklist of tasks to be performed and was used by astronaut William Anders in his capacity of Lunar Module Pilot on the Apollo 8 mission in December 1968. The Apollo 8 mission was the first mission to leave Earth orbit and travel to the Moon, launched from a Saturn V vehicle. While Apollo 8 did not have a lunar lander attached, the mission proved that the systems would function well and it would be possible to navigate to and from the Moon. During the 20 hours Apollo 8 orbited the Moon the astronauts tested the craft systems, took photographs, and scouted future landing sites. After the mission, the checklist was displayed in the Manned Spacecraft Center auditorium. Ownership of the checklist was transferred to the National Air and Space Museum from NASA - Johnson Space Center in 1973 and transferred to NASM for display in 1976.
