The R807 experimet

In this photograph (photo 379), the Open Axial Field magnet can be seen with the central drift chamber in position around the beam crossing. The vertical wall of uranium calorimeters is withdrawn for access, and behind it can be seen the iron shielding blocks and finally the proportional chambers and atmospheric Cherenkov counters which provide the muon detection.
