Silk weaving tradition in Aceh may be traced back to as early as 15th Century, by 16th Century it was a major trade product sold as far as India and Portugal. 'Hah' is a measurement, a cubit (from elbow to fingertips), 'Dublah' is twelve. The twelve cubit long cloths are worn today in Aceh mainly by brides as part of their wedding dress.

The cloth has been decorated with gold-threaded designs on both ends through the supplementary weft technique similar to ' songket'. Acehnese textiles are characterized by dark colours, purple, maroon, black and dark blue.
