This note is adorned with the Prince of Wales feathers, a popular Welsh symbol. The emblem of three ostrich feathers in a crown with the motto 'Ich dien' (I serve) was originally used by Edward, the 'Black Prince' (1330-76), who was created Prince of Wales in 1343, and it has been the badge of every subsequent Prince of Wales.
