This development comprises 11 pre-war shophouses (143 -163 (odd nos.) Lavender Street) and a modern extension at the rear. The shophouses were owned by prominent businessman and philanthropist Lee Kong Chian, who was a strong supporter of Sun Yet Sen’s Nationalist cause. This could have been the reason for the depiction of soldiers carrying the Chinese Nationalist flag on the pediment of 163 Lavender Street.
