On May 3rd 1946, demonstrations broke out across the country, the largest in Kraków. The secret service and the military intervened. Hundreds of people were taken into custody. Shots were fired, there were casualties, including several fatalities. Communist propaganda called the demonstrators a reactionary element acting under the sign of… Targowica.
