In 1866 Jubal Early, a confederate exile boarded here at “Barker Hall” from 1866 to 1867. Jubal Early had risen in rank during the American Civil war and served under Stonewall Jackson and Robert E. Lee. He was commanded the infantry of the Army of Northern Virginia and was heavily involved in the Gettysburg campaigns.
