'Het huis van Bernarda Alba' (Bernarda Alba’s house) is a one hour lasting, narrative ballet, set to passionate music. It is based on the eponymous theatre play by Garcia Lorca about a family of five daughters, and the tense relationship that comes with the loss of their father. The central theme of the play is the repression – of the daughters by their mother, of the daughters among themselves, and by all the people they are surrounded by. Mats Ek does not exactly follow the theatre play, but makes his own interpretation by, for example, using dream scenes.
