Virginia's Bathroom, Eltham Palace

This rather sumptuous bathroom was also designed by Peter Malacrida. It is the most opulent of all. It has a vaulted ceiling and walls lined with onyx and embellished with black slate disks on to which are set glass spheres. The bath itself has gold plated taps and a lions-mask spout. Above the tub is a gold mosaic niche surrounding a statue of the goddess Psyche (the lover of Cupid). This combination of classical and modernist design followed the latest Parisian vogue.
