The peti almari are usually made using sheesham or sal wood for longevity of the furniture. Often, the top surface of the chest is used to keep containers and clothes. A cloth is laid out on the peti before putting things on it, to prevent damage to the wooden surface. Less used objects like metal containers and caskets were kept on the top of almari.
