The photograph states "9th Regiment marching to Camp Santa Monica, Cal., Aug. 20, 1894." Written on the back of the picture is "Ocean Ave and Pico Blvd. 1811." Soldiers from the 9th Regiment marching to Camp Santa Monica. Men on horseback lead the column, followed by a brass band, and a large group of soldiers. The soldiers are marching across a bridge on what is now Ocean Ave. at the intersection of Pico Blvd. The building in the upper left is a depot for the "Santa Fe Route". A horse-drawn ice truck is visible at far right.
