Long dress
1960s
Original unknown
By maker unknown
This long dress with Juliette sleeves is made from a cotton jersey knit (knitted not woven) fabric. It is double knitted (Interlock Jersey) with less stretch than light-weight, single knit jersey. This heavier knit fabric is created by knitting together two single jerseys which leaves the two flat sides on the outside with the piles in the middle. The lining of the sleeves is printed cotton calico. The dress has a back plastic zipper.
Other information
Jersey cotton fabric is a knit fabric made using either a flat weft or circular knitting machine. The machines are a series of needles that produce interlocking loops of thread. Because stitches are small, even, and consistent, jersey cotton has a flat, smooth face with a back that is more textured.
