Front view. The VC Commodore was produced by Holden Australia and was the second model of the first generation Commodores. The vehicle is a commissioned art piece created by Andrew Jackson for the Australian bicentennial exhibition. Also known as the 'junk car', it is a popular vehicle at the Museum. Children enjoy looking at the objects stuck to the car's exterior and try to find the most unusual and some visitors remember using these objects in the past.

- Provenance: Sydney artist, Andrew Jackson, was commissioned to create an art piece for the Australian bicentennial exhibition collection. Andrew's idea was that the family car was a symbol of Australia's consumer culture. He set various objects in clear polyester resin and covered it with clear fibreglass. The car is covered with throwaway objects such as stereo speaker cones, an Arnott's biscuit packet, a used Colgate toothpaste tube. The art piece was a comment on Australia's society. Today it also serves as a 'time capsule' that reveals some of the popular Australian products from the 1980s. Inside the car are a 'typical' Australian family: father, mother, two children and a dog. Another Sydney artist, David Hawkes, made the figures out of wire, cloth and acrylic paint. It was purchased by the National Motor Museum.
