For years Hans van Manen has been called the “Piet Mondriaan of dance”, on account of the austere and clear style of his ballets. In ‘Compositie’ he starts with two wooden square tables and four identically shaped chairs around them. In this setting eight couples play a game of ever-changing relationships. The contrast between linear forms and capricious human relationships, leads to an increasing, erotic tension, and a sultry atmosphere.
With 'Compositie' Hans van Manen has created a true homage to Mondriaan.
