Choreographer: Martin Müller

After creating several choreographies for NDT’s yearly chorographical workshop (now known as ‘Switch’), Martin Müller made his first work for NDT 2: 'Who's Watching Who?'. In this ballet, he visualizes the confrontation between whales and scientists, observing each other underwater, becoming fascinated by one another. The nature of their movements, the piece of cloth between their legs, like a fin, and the long hair, which almost constantly covers their faces, give the dancers the character of non-human creatures. The sound collage of the cries of seagulls, the lapping of waves, as well as the humming, squeaking and whistling of whales, emphasize the underwater effect.
For 'Who's Watching Who?', Martin Müller received the Aanmoedigingsprijs Choreografie 1992 from Fonds voor de Kunsten Amsterdam.
