This painting, executed in a round format, infrequent in Frida’s work, shows the degree of destruction to which her body had come. It was painted in the early 1950s, when Frida’s health was increasingly fragile. The painting shows the trunk of a woman’s body, legless and armless, as if it had been blown apart and was still in flames. This highly dramatic effect comes from the way in which Frida executed the painting.
