This article summarises Edmond Halley's theories regarding air pressure. Using experimentation, observations and calculations, Halley shows that barometric pressure measure by mercury is affected by altitude and he lays out the effect of various meteorological phenomena on barometric pressure. His theories build on the experiments published by Edmé Mariotte ( De la nature de l'air, 1679) and Robert Boyle (Experiments Physico-Mechanical, 1660)
Halley published the article in the journal of the Royal Society, The Philosophical Transactions, volume 16.
