A Drawing of the Park

Skoklosters, Sweden

This drawing of the park surrounding Skokloster was designed by Jean de Vallée for Count Wrangel in the 1660’s. It is not clear how much, if anything, was realised. We know that Wrangel had difficulty in finishing the interior of the house, but that does not mean that he left the outside environment totally untamed. An archaeological excavation would perhaps give us some idea of the original garden.

The main house is the faint, greyish square in the lower right-hand corner. The wavy lines at the bottom end show the position of the lake shoreline.
