The Royal Albert Hall was built between 1867 and 1871 to designs by Captain Fowke. Eliptical in plan, it is faced in red and buff terracotta with a glazed domed roof. The Italian Renaissance-style concert hall is famed for hosting a wide variety of musical concerts and was used on several occasions as a meeting venue by the Women's Social and Political Union during the campaign for women's suffrage in the early 20th century.
