The painting has a sign and seal of the painter, Yoshizawa Setsuan. It depicts the red sun on the upper part and a hawk on the lower part of the picture. The hawk is staring forward with its wings at rest on the rock by the sea. The sun is veiled in gold mist, and the wave splashing on the rock is tossing up white spray. The hawk of commanding presence is created by whitewash fine lines and shades of Indian ink.
